Where Are They??

My dear daughter's birthday was two weeks ago.  Our family celebrated her special day but I wanted to mail her card.  Let's face it we all like to receive mail....especially Birthday cards.  Well I mailed the card at just the right time for it to arrive on my daughter's special day.  Or at least that was what I thought.  Remember I said her special day was two weeks ago.......the card still hasn't arrived.  Usually it takes no more than two days to reach her home.

What makes this even more unusual is that she also hasn't received cards from her Grandmother, Aunt, and Great Aunt.  Yes we did have the correct address.  Where are they?   Lost in Birthday card never never land?  We all just keep waiting and wondering.  It's a mystery.

I guess some times things just take longer than we anticipated.  Where Are They?  Who knows? I have read stories of people receiving mail 50 years later.  If that is true then my daughter will get a wonderful surprise on her 75th birthday!

Blessings!

Big Hearts

I can not let the month of February pass without talking about some special people with Big Hearts.  Each February my son helps to produce a pageant that spot lights some very special children.  Most are considered by society to be disabled in some way, but on this one night they are treated like the kings and queens that they truly are.

Each contestant performs a special talent individually and they do several numbers as a group.  This is all done with help from volunteers who devote hours just to help give these kids a night when they can be the stars.  Any funds raised at the event go to fund a summer camp for children with special needs.  This year over 200,000 dollars was raised in just one night!

Those who attended learned that Big Hearts can do Big Things when everyone works together.  A big high five to everyone who participated!  No amount of money can equal the smiles of the children who will be helped by your generosity!

Blessings!

Mixing It Up

I have enjoyed spending some time in my sewing room the past few days.  As usual my Dear Husband and I have several projects going.  One that I am very excited about that I will be sharing soon!  :-)

Please tell me I am not the only person who buys fabric with a specific purpose in mind.....and then you forget you even have it!  Well this particular fabric had been laying in my stash for quite a while. Fortunately my memory was awakened by a throw at Pier One.

The picture shows a special spot in my quest room.  The chair belonged to some dear relatives.  It looked like it had seen better days when I acquired it.  Unwanted by anyone else I saw a diamond in the rough.  After a little face lift, it is perfect.  I don't think anyone would guess that it is over 150 years old now!

The rug is what some would call contemporary.   Based on the Amy Butler fabric line it really brightens up the room.  The fabric of the pillow is the long lost  "stash find" and the throw seems to bring it all together.

Many might think that antiques aren't meant to "mix it up" with contemporary furnishings but I really like the look!

The older I get the more I realize that "mixing  it up" can apply to our personal interactions as well. Each generation has something to offer the next.   We can learn from each other.....inspire each other.....help one another along the way.  Brighten each other up, so to speak!  This really hit me today at my Bible Study.  In my small group we had 3 generations and 4 different nationalities represented. I learned so much by listening to the wide range of  experiences these women shared.  Sunday my husband and I had brunch with our children.  Once again I was inspired and in awe of all that is happening in their lives.  I am blessed in so many ways!

I am headed back to my sewing room.  I am once again using some old and some new as inspiration for my next project.  Inspired and helped along the way by "mixing it up" in every aspect of life!

Blessings!

Dealing With......A Cold

This picture looks like an advertisement for CVS!  I will say that CVS is my friend but this post is about dealing with a cold.  You  know what I am talking about!  One of those good old fashioned colds. Runny nose, headache, cough, general malaise just to mention a few of the wonderful symptoms that go along with this well known friend.  I know that I will feel better......eventually but right now not so much.

The "good" thing about having a cold is that we are forced to slow down.  No excuses!  No work. Just rest.  I am watching some TV, reading a good book, and knitting.  I have tried every flavor of hot tea you can imagine and my kleenex box is my best friend.

Sundays are supposed to be for rest.  Rest for the body and soul.  Perhaps we all need this lesson reinforced.  So even though I have a cold, I am going to try to look at this as a blessing in disguise. A really good excuse to take it easy.  Probably the very best way of "Dealing With.....A Cold".

Blessings!

Running The Race

Yesterday my dear daughter and her husband ran their first 5K of the year.  They both did very well and my son-in-law took third place in his age division.  Way to go!  I am always impressed with runners, probably because it doesn't come naturally to me.  I played basketball when I was younger and practice always included lots and lots of running.  It certainly wasn't a pleasant experience!

I love the quote by Bonnie Mohn, "Life is not a race-but indeed a journey".  There are many variations on this saying but the just of it is enjoy each day to the fullest.  Don't be in such a hurry! :-)  This week I start a new Beth Moore Bible Study, Mercy Triumphs.  It is a study of the book of James.  I am excited about seeing all of my buddies from last years class.  A lot has changed since then.  I credit that class and those women  with giving me the courage to take some risks.  Who knows what this year holds?

My daughter and her husband have started training for several half marathons in the next several months.  Good for them!  She wants her father and I to join them for one in October.  I have been assured that it is "walker friendly".  Meaning that they don't look down on those of us who can't run the whole way and need a little walking break.  I looked it up and it certainly looks like fun so maybe I'll give it a go.....haven't talked my hubby into it yet. :-)

The Beth Moore study is "walker friendly"  as well.  You can do as much or as little as you wish.  Just show up and watch the DVD or go as far as memorizing the entire book of James.  I plan to be a runner/walker.  I am sure some weeks I will be able to do more than others but I also know that no matter what I do God will bless me and the other ladies.

So here I go.  I am ready to "Run The Race".  Have a great week and remember to enjoy the journey!

Blessings!
