Running The Race

Yesterday my dear daughter and her husband ran their first 5K of the year.  They both did very well and my son-in-law took third place in his age division.  Way to go!  I am always impressed with runners, probably because it doesn't come naturally to me.  I played basketball when I was younger and practice always included lots and lots of running.  It certainly wasn't a pleasant experience!

I love the quote by Bonnie Mohn, "Life is not a race-but indeed a journey".  There are many variations on this saying but the just of it is enjoy each day to the fullest.  Don't be in such a hurry! :-)  This week I start a new Beth Moore Bible Study, Mercy Triumphs.  It is a study of the book of James.  I am excited about seeing all of my buddies from last years class.  A lot has changed since then.  I credit that class and those women  with giving me the courage to take some risks.  Who knows what this year holds?

My daughter and her husband have started training for several half marathons in the next several months.  Good for them!  She wants her father and I to join them for one in October.  I have been assured that it is "walker friendly".  Meaning that they don't look down on those of us who can't run the whole way and need a little walking break.  I looked it up and it certainly looks like fun so maybe I'll give it a go.....haven't talked my hubby into it yet. :-)

The Beth Moore study is "walker friendly"  as well.  You can do as much or as little as you wish.  Just show up and watch the DVD or go as far as memorizing the entire book of James.  I plan to be a runner/walker.  I am sure some weeks I will be able to do more than others but I also know that no matter what I do God will bless me and the other ladies.

So here I go.  I am ready to "Run The Race".  Have a great week and remember to enjoy the journey!

Blessings!

  1. Over three years of walking 3 miles/5days a week here for me and I still love it. It's the one exercise that I've been dedicated to for this long - nothing else really entices me, except for bike riding and it's too messy/cold to do that right now, even with the nicer days. Have to wait for spring for that for husband and I.

But walking - I walk even when it's 10 below out and actually the colder days are some of my favorite to walk in because I'm all bundled up, I don't get hot, and I like the anonymous effect.

Every so often, I'll have a dream where I'm jogging/running. I've tried it but my knees really can't handle it, so I think it will just be walking for me.

Anyway, just wanted to write - Good for you on your walks! :)

Hope you have a great week,
    Linda
