What is the appeal? For me I think it revolves around the fact that I had family members who grew up in that era. I was very close to them and actually inherited some of their belongings. I have many pictures depicting this very era. The picture above is my Great Aunt and two cousins on the front porch of their Victorian home. I grew up going there frequently and sat for hours listening to stories about their lives. My husbands grandparents also told us all stories about this period in history. I suppose that leaves us truly infatuated with the series.
My husband and I were actually out to lunch last week and heard the couple next to us discussing the show. We thought is was so funny that it seems to appeal to so many different people. I also believe you could compare it to a soap opera and we all know how addictive those can be! Not me of course! :-)
If you haven't tuned in, give it a try. I think you too will enjoy escaping to Downton Abbey.

ReplyDeleteI need to stop what ever I'm doing and check this out!
Thank you for the heads up.
What a great picture and a treasure to have! I think I have some family pictures taken during that time also - need to dig them out. I am right there with you - Love the series. I am looking forward to tomorrow night's show. Don't get me started on soaps - I don't watch them.
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying your weekend.
I love British programs. Haven't seen this one, but I don't watch much television.
ReplyDeleteThat is such an awesome photograph that you have! What a blessing to have something so personal and wonderful as that. I only have a few very old photos, but they are only of settings in photo studios - not too many of anything personal going on, let alone on the porch of their home. That's wonderful.
