The Basics

Sticking to the basics is something I have learned since going back to work. At home, at work, and in class.....the basics are essential. For the past few weeks on Thursday nights this has really become clear. I am taking a photography class and I have learned so much! Now, I feel like I control the camera instead of being afraid of "tearing it up". :-) I still have lots to learn but I am slowly getting there.

Our first homework was to look for lines......in the shape of the letters of the alphabet. At first it seemed almost impossible but soon it actually became fun. My entire family started "seeing" the lines for the first time. They are everywhere! I think I was the only person in class who found every letter....some more than once.

Every week the assignments have gotten progressively harder. I am amazed at what my camera can do! I finally got enough courage to let the class critique my pictures. They were kind and constructive in there evaluations.

Work is going well. Thanks for all of your encouraging words. They are begging me to go full time. Don't they know that Mrs. DD has too many other interests to work full time?! :-) I know that I am blessed to have a choice and for now I am sticking with part time. I have become more organized at home and so far I am keeping up. Mr. DD and I are working on lots of projects right now and I can't wait to share them with you. We have both decided that working at home is our form of relaxation and we are actually accomplishing more since I am back at work.....who knew?

My photography instructor shared the three most important words in photography....Line, Light, and Luck. The most important word to me is Luck! Each week he reminds us to stick to "the basics". True not only in photography but also in life. Keep it simple and basic and with a little luck and God's help a masterpiece will be born!

  6. I am always amazed to hear about the" growing steps" that people embark on, when most would think they have peaked in their ability to open new doors. Kudos to you for answering the knock at the door. Although it doesn't surprise me=0) Proud to know you!!!
