Unexpected Turns

Fasten Your Seat Belt!!!! Someone should have said this to me one month ago. Big news....at least to me! :-) I have a job. Yes, that is right. After 24 years as a stay-at-home mom, I am officially back in the working world. I wasn't looking for a job. It just happened.

I had gone out to lunch with a group of friends. Keep in mind that this was not a place we would normally eat and is "out of the way" to get to. After our meal, I looked across the room and saw a lady I had worked with over 30 years ago. We had worked together in the circulation department of the local library. During high school and part of college I had worked as a library assistant every Saturday and full time during the Summer. Now my friend is the Director of the library system that encompasses three counties. Fortunately she remembered me and we talked about the past and the fun we had together. I told her how much I had enjoyed working in the library setting. In passing she said that they had just filled a position that morning. The next morning I received a call from the Director of Staffing saying that the position was vacant. Apparently the individual had suddenly changed their mind about the job. The Director wanted to know if I might be interested. Shocked I said I would need to think about it and discuss it with Mr. DD. I said lots of prayers over the next 24 hours and decided (with the help of my husband) that if it didn't work out then I could just resign. I called her the next morning and she arranged an interview that afternoon. Can you say nervous......that is an understatement! After an hour long interview and a test......yes I said a test, she told me that they would let me know one way or the other in 2-3 days. One hour later they called and offered me the job! I started 2 days later.

To say that it has been a learning experience would be an understatement. Fortunately I had taken classes and felt fairly confident in my computer skills. Unfortunately I hadn't gotten to the class in the program they use. I am slowly learning. Everyday I add to my knowledge and confidence.

I tell you this long story to say that God certainly does direct us if we let him. Deciding to go back to school , eating lunch at a certain spot on a certain day at a certain time, running into a former friend 30 years later, a job position becoming open after being filled. All coincidences? I really feel like this part-time job is a "God Thing". I told my husband that I was afraid not to take the job because it seemed to me that too many things had come together for it to just be a "coincidence".

So far so good. Want to hear another "coincidence"? My husband was transferred to a different position. Our days off are exactly the same. His hours coincide with mine. We will have more time together than ever before.

Unexpected Turns.....It is the unexpected turns that make our life richer if we are open to God's lead. I will keep you up to date. Right now I have to go get ready......I have to go to work!

  2. That sounds like a wonderful change to me. Glad it's working out for you. Going back to work is a big adjustment...I know because I did it last year. Take it one day at a time and remember that everything doesn't have to be perfect. :)

I love this "story" of yours. It's refreshing to read that God is everywhere.
No coincidences, just God's handy work.

  6. DD,
First of all, hello! I've missed visiting you and seeing what you've been up to. I haven't been doing my blog reading as much as I would like.

God is amazing and He does amazing things in our lives. When I read that you felt that you couldn't turn the job down because you feel it's all part of God's plan in your life, I thought "yes!". I have had instances in my own life where I felt it was too much of a coincidence and God made it crystal clear that it was His plan for me.

I am so thrilled for you! You will be perfect for that job. You are intelligent, kind and will be such an asset. And it's so great that your schedule coincides with Mr. DD's!

Have fun and keep us updated on how it goes!

  8. This is such a joy to read - I love it. So appropriate for me to read it this morning, on my 9th Wedding Anniversary. :) Yes, indeed, God has surprises in store for us when we're open to His leading. I think this every time that I write the monthly column or when the editor called me last week to ask if I could write a for-pay correspondence piece on a deadline. My initial thought when that happens is - Oh boy, I'm nervous about this. But then in the next second I realize that it is God providing the opportunities. He is so gracious to us, isn't He?

Congratulations on your new job - it sounds wonderful and I know you'll do a great work.
    Blessings always,
    Linda

I have always felt that when you start on a new adventure in life doors will open that you never knew existed. To walk through that door will bring you new and enriching insights in your encounters with new people. It will be a struggle at first but, you are a bright, talented, and motivated person. Someone out there needs you.........and thats what we are all here for.
