A New Addition

On a recent trip to a local greenhouse, Mr. DD and I decided to made a new addition to our backyard garden. You might say it is a night time addition. We were both fascinated with the moon vine that the owner told us about.

The flower is a creamy white and is 6 inches in diameter. I know that it is difficult to see the size in the picture, but trust me it truly is 6 inches. Yes, I measured. :-) The fragrance is just wonderful as well. This picture was taken at 10pm. The first picture was taken at 5pm....it was just starting to open.

We planted the vine right beside our back patio and really enjoy watching it open each night. The owner said it would grow 15 feet but trust me it has grown much more than that.....actually it is still growing!

If you enjoy unusual plants, I highly recommend Moon Vine. It is a joy to watch each day....I mean night! :-)

  1. Moonflowers! Love them. I grew them from seed several years back along our front stoop and they were heavenly, so I decided to grow them from seed again this year, but this time near the back patio. My original plans were that they would grow up the Pergola that Jim and I built. I changed my mind about that, preferring to keep it clean, but instead installed a lovely scrolled-bird, wire support stand along the place where the vine is growing. It's starting to finally grow up larger, and it's not blooming yet, but hopefully soon.

  2. A neighbor had one for years - don't know if it is still there or not. The blooms were huge and very pretty.
    Enjoy your weekend.
