Vision

Do you remember your first home? That feeling of pride, accomplishment, and fear when you were handed the keys to the front door!? Today my daughter and her husband are closing on their first home. They are excited and I am sure a little nervous about what this new adventure holds.

I certainly remember the first home my hubby and I had. It was a cape cod that we had custom built. Oh the headaches of building! You know what I mean. Nothing ever goes exactly as you picture it, but in the end, the result is just what it should be. Our second home took an awful lot of vision and hard work. When we purchased the home it had holes in the walls, no carpet on the floor, and lovely decor from the early 60's. Fortunately we saw the "diamond in the rough". Now we are so happy that we took a chance and made it our own.

My daughter and her husband had to have vision as well. Their "new" home was built in 1870. When they first visited the home it was in extreme disrepair. It had been abandoned for over 5 years. The vision that they needed was tremendous!

Now it is completely restored and absolutely beautiful! (I will share pictures just as soon as possible) All of the charm of a period home but completely updated! The entire neighborhood is perfect.

Like my husband and I this young couple had to have vision. They had to see beyond what appeared to be possible. As visionaries you have to close your ears to other peoples opinions and allow yourself to dream. Often the result is amazing and the knowledge and confidence gained is priceless!

How about you? What was your first home like? Did you have to have "vision" for what could be? I would love to hear your stories!

Congratulations to the new homeowners! May you have many years of happiness filled with love and adventure creating memories that will last a lifetime! :-)

  2. This is so beautifully shared, a joy to read. Congratulations to your daughter and her husband on this wonderful achievement! What I envisioned was an old home, rich with history as well. What I got was anything but. We built a small ranch in 2000 and the relationship didn't last, but I'm still here in that small ranch with my husband of nearly 9 years and my daughter, with my parents now next door for several years, and it's turned out to be a blessing. Especially in these economic times - it makes sense for us to live modestly in something with a very small mortgage. So... by the time things change in our lives again - I doubt I will want to move elsewhere, so this may be our one and only home.

  5. How exciting for your daughter and son-in-law! I can't wait to hear more about their new "old" house. I wish I had my first house back. It would be perfect for us "empty nesters" now! Love & blessings from NC!

  6. how wonderful for them! I also love to renovate, but an 1850 house is quite the renovation. I hope you have before and after pics for us to see!
