Why?

Why in the world did I schedule my routine dental cleaning for eight o'clock a.m. on the Monday after Christmas? Who knows! I was the only one there which I guess is a good thing? The office staff were all dragging in after being off for Christmas. Even the Dentist was late. On the bright side.....my teeth feel great, I didn't have any cavities, and they don't weigh you prior to the cleaning. :-) Have a great day and remember to smile alot! LOL

One Hundred Twenty Two Years?

Can it be true that we just experienced the first white Christmas in one hundred and twenty two years? It is true and oh how beautiful it was/is! This region has had momentary glances at snow on Christmas day but this year we had measurable snow.....four inches. I know that all of you that live in the "colder" regions of the United States feel that snow is just a normal part of the season. Here in the South it is a "real event".

My dear husband gave me a new telephoto lens for my camera and I had so much fun taking pictures. I will have more to come. I have given you just a glimpse of the beauty my family and I have enjoyed the past two days.

Hopefully we won't have to wait another one hundred years to enjoy the quiet beauty that a new fallen snow brings.....especially at Christmas! :-)

Gingerbread Joy

I am enjoying another busy day in the kitchen. Thankfully my cold went away and I am busy creating a "gingerbread army". It is cold here and we are expecting snow on Christmas Day. My family is all here and we are so very thankful for all of our blessings!

My goal is to have each family member represented by gingerbread. For now Mr. DD and I send you "Gingerbread Joy" on this wonderful Christmas Eve! :-)

Colds....Is There Ever A Good Time?

Is there ever a "good" time to have a really bad cold? The obvious answer is no and I can assure you that Christmas is not a very convenient time. I have been forced to slow down, change a few plans, and I have watched a lot of "holiday" movies. Oh and I forgot about eating lots and lots of chicken soup! :-) I am hoping to feel some better this weekend since all of my family parties are starting. Hope you all are well. Remember to wash your hands and take lots of vitamin C.....I sound just like your Mother don't I? Just do what I say because I can assure you that this is definitely not a good time to have a cold. :-(

And They're Off!

One more thing is done! Yea! The Christmas cards are addressed, sealed, and in the mail. I actually don't mind doing Christmas cards and I love receiving them. It is like a little visit with friends and loved ones when they arrive in the mail. On to the rest of the list. My house is a disaster area.....gifts, wrapping paper, bags, tags. You get the picture? I need to organize, I need to shop, and I need to take my own advice and slow down.

(Note to self: Next year avoid the Christmas cards that have even one speck of glitter. My house now sparkles and so do I! ) LOL

Decisions Decisions

Santa is going to have some decisions to make when he stops by my home on Christmas Eve. Thanks to my husband I now have two fireplaces for Santa to choose from. Ok... one of them isn't real but I still think it might confuse old St. Nick. :-)

I have been wanting to add a "faux" mantel to my living room for quite a while. I felt like my living room needed a focal point and I knew my Dear Hubby could create one. We both set a deadline of Thanksgiving to complete the project and it was done a week before. I loved having another mantel to decorate for Christmas. The look is completely different from my den.

I envisioned a warm romantic feel with a Victorian twist. I think my goal was accomplished.

I actually used items that I already had. The peacock feather tree gave me the color inspiration. It is hard to tell from the pictures but it really does add a lot to the room.

In my den the look is more traditional to go with the room decor. Burgandy, green, and gold set the tone. Once again I used things I have collected over the years but I put them together in different ways.

The one thing going for this mantel is that a warm fire can give it a special glow on a cold winters night.

Our family's big "memory" tree is in the living room and the stockings are hung in the den. I guess Santa won't have to make a decision after all. He'll have to visit both rooms. Boy, that's a relief! No one wants to confuse Santa this close to Christmas! :-)
